How to open an e-invoice
- 1Drop the invoice file onto the field above, or click to choose it. XML files and PDFs with an embedded invoice (ZUGFeRD, Factur-X) are accepted.
- 2The format is detected automatically: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD/Factur-X, Peppol BIS or another EN 16931 invoice in UBL or CII syntax.
- 3Read the invoice in a normal layout and switch to the validation report to see which rules pass or fail.
- 4Print the invoice or save it as a PDF through your browser’s print dialog. Keep the original file for your records.
What invoiceprobe does
Structured e-invoices are XML data. That is what makes them machine-readable, and also why they are hard to read for the person who receives one by email. invoiceprobe turns the data back into something you can read, print and check.
- Viewer – shows seller and buyer, invoice lines, VAT breakdown, totals, payment details (IBAN, BIC, terms), buyer reference or Leitweg-ID, notes and attachments. Totals are recalculated independently, so arithmetic errors stand out.
- Validator – checks the file against the XML schema, the EN 16931 core rules and, for German invoices, the XRechnung rules published by KoSIT. Each finding comes with the official rule ID, the location in the XML and, for the most common rules, a plain-language explanation of the fix.
- Converter (coming soon) – turning a plain PDF into a ZUGFeRD or Factur-X invoice, paid per file. See the PDF to ZUGFeRD converter page.
Supported formats
| Format | Typical use |
|---|---|
| XRechnung (UBL or CII) | Germany, mandatory for public-sector invoices, widely used in B2B |
| ZUGFeRD 2.x / Factur-X | Germany and France, PDF with embedded XML, or XML only |

| Other EN 16931 UBL/CII | Any invoice or credit note following the European standard |
Not supported yet: ZUGFeRD 1.0, the Polish KSeF FA(3) structure and PDF/A-3 conformance checks. The e-invoice viewer overview lists every tool by format.
Your invoice stays on your device
The file is read and checked inside your browser. It is never uploaded and there is no server-side processing. The only network requests are for this page itself and for the official rule files, which are the same for every visitor. Nothing is stored: when you close the tab, the data is gone. There is no account and no sign-up.
We are not a platform
E-invoicing laws in Germany, France and Belgium create a market for transmission services. invoiceprobe is deliberately not one of them. It is a tool for looking at and checking files you already have.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Viewing and validating are free and need no account. The planned PDF-to-ZUGFeRD converter will be paid per file, without a subscription.
Is my invoice uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing, rendering and validation all run in your browser. The rule files are downloaded once from this site; your invoice is never sent back.
Which rule versions are used?
The EN 16931 validation artefacts 1.3.16 from CEN/TC 434 and the XRechnung Schematron 2.6.0 for XRechnung 3.0.2 from KoSIT. The versions are shown in every validation report.
Can I send or receive invoices with it?
No. For Peppol you need an access point, and in France invoices must pass through a plateforme agréée. invoiceprobe only reads and checks files.
Does a green result mean the invoice is legally correct?
It means the file meets the technical rules that were checked. Whether the content is correct for tax purposes, for example the VAT treatment, is a separate question for you or your adviser.
